Working With Stress Or Not

Well, in all my classes I read a page from Eric Maisels great book Fearless Creating . In the book he has a wonderful list of what working means. I read it to each and every class I teach because I think it's so great. One of the things it list is "Working means surviving disturbances". I must admit that the past few days I have not managed to do this. There are times when it's just not possible to put worry and stress aside and put your mind into work. I do trust that the pull of the smell of oil paint and the seductive colors of the pastels will pull me back to the comfort of my studio. It's ok, I will get there. I don't usually post too much that is personal, as I think it's a kinda downer, but I think that being human, living in a human body is part of who we are as artists.
So think good thoughts for me over the next few days and I'll update you when I'm back in the studio, adversity or celebration!

Fish Creek and The Peninsula School of Art

Just returned from a wonderful week in Door County, WI. The landscape was verdant and lovely, my students engaged and thoughtful and the locals, very friendly. I had a fantastic time. Can't wait to go back
Check out some of the scenery! Thank you so much to the Peninsula School of Art!!

Sun!!!

Wow, finally some sun in Oregon. I almost forgot what it felt like. I had to be outside today, so no painting was even attempted. I have a feeling I'll be back at it tomorrow, as the forecast is dim. Well, today was glorious. We even got our tomatoes planted, finally. I'll bet in sunny California, folks are already eating theirs!

I did this piece last month, right before our show in Belleville. I reminds me of a warm summer night, with the light crawling through the trees after a day like today, spent in the sun. I liked it quite a lot and also sold it!
